I beg to state arriving at the commencement of the summer. that I understand that I was released from Civil duties in Hong Kong until the end of the War, which I assumed would not be before next June, and have made arrangements accordingly for my self and family. There are also other domestic circumstances which require my presence in England for a few months. It may be remembered that strong representations were made against my return to oivil duty in 1916, and I returned much against my own personal inclinatione, when it was pointed out that my services were more urgently needed in the Colony, I would therefore, ask that this fact may also be taken into consideration so that I may be grented a few months leave for which I have sufficient 1/2 pay leave to commute.
